Dermatitis is a skin disorder, which causes rashes, itchy skin and blisters. Acute form of dermatitis shows inflammation, swelling, redness, blistering and oozing. There are in all four types of dermatitis - Atopic dermatitis, Contact dermatitis, Seborrheic dermatitis, and Nummular Dermatitis.

Details about the Four Types of DermatitisOther name for atopic dermatitis is atopic eczema. It is a common skin disorder affecting 10-15% children. Out of all other types of dermatitis, this is very common and causes rashes and itching. The exact cause of atopic dermatitis is unknown. Doctors believe that genetic make up of an individual may cause reoccurrence of atopic dermatitis.
Contact dermatitis is a kind of skin disorder whose causative factor is exposure of the skin to irritating substances like soaps, detergents, certain plants and solvents. Other causative agent is an allergen that causes allergic reactions. This skin disorder causes itching and rashes.
Among the types of dermatitis is Nummular Dermatitis that produces round plaques of eczema. This type of dermatitis is more common among older adults. Main cause of nummular dermatitis is unknown.
Seborrheic Dermatitis is a skin disorder that occurs in those areas of the skin rich in oil glands. For instance, behind ears, middle of the face and specially on scalp. It is a chronic condition. Seborrheic dermatitis causes reddening of skin and large wax production in affected areas. Most common victims of seborrheic dermatitis are men, middle-aged people and infants. Causative factors are unknown. Individuals sensitive to yeast on skin as well as people infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( HIV ) may contract seborrheic dermatitis.
